news: I'm New Here - out now!

Monday February 8, 2010

There is a proper procedure for taking advantage of any investment.

Music, for example. Buying a CD is an investment.
To get the maximum you must

LISTEN TO IT FOR THE FIRST TIME UNDER OPTIMUM CONDITIONS.

Not in your car or on a portable player through a headset.
Take it home.
Get rid of all distractions, (even him or her).
Turn off your cell phone.
Turn off everything that rings or beeps or rattles or whistles.
Make yourself comfortable.
Play your CD.
LISTEN all the way through.
Think about what you got.
Think about who would appreciate this investment.
Decide if there is someone to share this with.
Turn it on again.
Enjoy Yourself.

  3. Dear Gil,
    Thanks for the listening instructions.
People need that nowadays, it seems.
I got my vinyl copy coming in the mail and me and my lady will stand right under your nose at the Edinburgh gig.
We very much look forward to hearing what you have to say.

  4. He’s never been away.

This afternoon my needle cried tears of joy as it made it’s way around the groove, and I joined in.

Tweeters scratching, bass thumping, roll on 20th April, we’re coming.

  5. No words can describe how I feel tonight. Your words through your voice are so powerful, beautiful. Thank you for giving us, again, a part of your soul. Thank you for giving us that inestimable gift.

  8. Glad to see you back – better than ever.

You really have sung the soundtrack of my life, through all the highs and lows. Pain, love, loss, hope – your music colours it all.

PLEASE do come back to the UK and play for us again – we’ve missed you.

  9. =Weeping= …
    Brilliant
    Majestic
    Deep Blue

    We’re all new here!

Your poetry and style influenced my Soul
and my Politics from the 70’s on … and,
then, one day i got a gig out of the Blue
[and $o badly needed!] to do monitors for
your show, August ’89 at Mercado Caribé,
    that 1000-seat monstrosity in downtown
Austin [long gone – as i thought you were,
my Friend! – Ah, never happier to be wrong!]

    August night, transported, the Omniverse
smiles on my life, arms length from you,
off stage-left, for what seemed like days
    and you played everything, EVERYthing,
and a bunch of cool new stuff, too…

You smiled bright toward me, once, twice,
happy with the monitor mix! Made my year!

Waited a long time for this weeping deep
blue beauty to return! Welcome Home!

  10. The new album really does live up to the hype. Great to get, and I’ll be at the London show also. Having sold all my vinyl (for charity) and disposed of my wrekka player, I was wondering, can the extra stuff be available digitally some how? I’ll pay.

Thanks for music, poetry and book Gil – much appreciated.

  14. Hello Gil,

we are so happy to see you again in france. The summer will be sweet here so take a break in our beautifull country.Have a glass of wine and enjoy. French people love your work.

It’s a very good idea to work with damon albarn. XL records always does a good job.

I hope that you wont have any problems at the airport as in past july.

    Thanks!

  15. This is outstanding. It has been a long time coming but it was worth the wait. The youngsters need to hear the real pioneer of the “spoken word”

  16. A brilliant LP. It tells us where we are musically, digitally, and culturally today. Lots of digital processed percussive backing, with poetic personalised narratives from the man himself, makes this LP sound very unique. As for Gil, well he’s a humanitarian activist, and I for one would like to thank him for his art.
