  1. Your concert in Israel. I guess you would have performed in Sun City during the height of apartheid as your concert is being announced people of conscience in Berkley are voting on divestment from the apartheid state of Israel…did you mean to sell out? Maybe the revolution will be televised after all..shame

  2. To Gil ScottHeron

Israel is the worst abuser of human rights in the world. Their illegal occupation of Palestine and their premeditated, systematic program of ethnic cleansing must be stopped. Both Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela have called Israel’s occupation of Palestine an apartheid state. Archbishop Tutu goes as far as to say that Africans in Apartheid South Africa lived in less violently oppressive and abusive conditions (see Occupation 101: Voices of the Silent Majority available for free viewing on the internet). Israel’s massacre in GAZA in 2008-09, televised around the world, finally revealed Israel’s egregious, murderous aggressions against Palestinians. Consequently, the world-wide call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel is rapidly gaining momentum. Israel and the U.S. have lost control and censorship over the media. Now, the “Truth Will Out” and U.S. complicity in Israel’s atrocities will be revealed to all. The U.S. must stop providing more than $5 billion per year in direct aid to Israel’s continuing violations of U.N. Security Council resolutions and Internatonal Human Rights laws. It is imperative that you take a moral stand, otherwise, you will live with your own personal shame.

  3. I read this phrase in someone’s personal introduction to a group of
    activists.
This came in the context of the person’s politics: upholding
bicycle activism; bike repair co-operativism; Critical Mass; and…
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE MOTORISED
“The revolution will not be motorised.”

  5. Gil, I have always loved your style, your message, and your way of thinking of things as to say something big in a small sentence. I seen you live in Detroit years ago and have liked you ever since. Just keep the faith of the light covering the earth and not letting darkness destroy it, it’s not about skin color, it’s about purity of the soul…..stop by and say hi, if you would like to be on my blog talk radio show as an interview, I would love to have you. Just let me know, send me an email on my myspace or facebook page. www.myspace.com/musicianssocialclub and you can find the show page at www.blogtalkradio.com/musicianssocialclub. With love, Leasa

  6. We were at your concert in Ottawa last night. My heartfelt thanks for a beautiful evening of inspiration, joy, and music.

We greatly enjoyed all of the band members in their glorious form. Such warmth and honesty in the music.

I was so happy to hear the new songs. Have watched “I’m New Here” video now a few times today, and with the rain, and your smooth, strong, and steady voice, it is a blessing and a comfort! (p.s. posted it on facebook, and my family in Austria is happy to be hearing it too!)

That you all performed for us after your flights, travel, etc., and that you were patient with the hecklers and un-initiated, and that you permitted us an encore when you had all just given already so much of yourselves up there and had woken at 6AM that day :D – it is all a testament to your strength and generosity.

Thank you So Much from Ottawa!!!

A Beautiful night, not to be forgotten…

    Lisa

  7. Hello Mr. Scott-Heron
I saw your concert at Syracuse Jazz fest. I must admit I never heard of you before that, but was really moved when I heard “On coming from a Broken Home”. Been in the Navy for 30 years and the best part was every three years you get to be “I’m new here! Well enjoy your show and Richie Havens…And Boz too. Take care and thank you so much for making songs that really touch a persons life. Keith

  9. Exposed: The Self
“An achiever with great potential, who is neither driven or motivated to realize that potential, will never achieve anything potentially great” – me

    ############################################################################

OK OK OK, I get it!

And all that stuff above is true; but I have news:

There is so much more! And I am finally discovering what some of it is.

The first thing I stumbled upon is that it ain’t all about ME. No wonder I couldn’t see the forest, I was stuck ‘inside’ this tree!

So now that I am out, I got some catching up to do. I have to reacquaint myself with ‘EVERYTHING’ around me. Because they are so much different now that I can see them, without the veil of ‘me’ in the way.

OK, the veil is lifted, but it can fall back in place at any time. That is the real challenge, how to remove the veil completely. To walk exposed and open to everything.

    That is true enlightenment.

That is the path I have chosen

  10. Exposed: Go Get Yours

    “It’s all about me”
    “I’m gonna do me”
“I’m getting mine, you betta get yours!”

Are these not the mantras in our communities, among young and old alike?

The only thing I have to say is “Go get you!”
Go get you, if that is all you want.
Go get you, if that is the only person you want.

Because that is all you will ever get.

You – at work. You – at the grocery store. You – getting your nails done. You – with your kids. You – with your boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband/partner. You – at church. You – when you pray.

You’ll be working by yourself, eating by yourself, laughing by yourself, crying by yourself, playing with or by yourself, dancing by yourself, living by yourself, and dying by yourself.

But what if you tried to get more than just ‘you’?

What if you tried to get your boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband/partner? Or your kids? Or your parents? Or your friends? Or your job? Or your boss?

What if we tried to get compassion? Or patience? Or thankfulness? Or forgiveness? What if we tried to get love?

Would that deprive us of anything? Would it take too much time away from the television, the cell phone, the DVD, the video game, the mall, the game, the club?

Would getting anything other than yourself diminish you in any way? Of course not. You grow.

If you ‘got’ your mother, you might learn that she was molested as a young girl. That as the oldest of 10 kids living in a small house in Robbins, IL, it fell to her to pick up the slack when her mother was working her 2 jobs, because she couldn’t rely on the men, 3 to be exact, that fathered these kids, to help.

You might get that she had dreams of being a star and was on her way until she got pregnant by her boyfriend that was in their Doo Wop singing group, but he got cold feet, she got hurt and in her spite married Super Fly. He was to be your father. And when the boyfriend came back around to do what was right because he was scared, but realized how much he loved her, she could not undo what she had done.

You might finally get why she always seemed so angry. She is angry with herself. She just took it out on you and your sisters. She didn’t know. How could she see? She was blinded by her pain.

If you truly got your mother. Wouldn’t that make you love her more than you thought possible?

But hey, if all you want is you – Go get you
My hope is, you will want to get EVERYTHING
