press: Gil in UK press!

Thursday February 18, 2010

The NME gave the album a superb 9/10! There’s also a great feature with a peek at the diary of the producer of ‘I’m New Here’, Richard Russell.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper made ‘I’m New Here’ album of the week too!

  3. Love and respect from London UK. Just heard the new album the other night. A friend of mine said I just had to check it. Inhaled a little weed which didn’t hurt the process none. Listened to it all the way through, the old fashioned way, with no one saying a word. Genius! What else can I say? Best album I’ve heard in years. On a mission now to turn everybody I know onto it. Thanks for making it Gil and thank God for you still being around to make it.
Gonna go out today and buy 3 copies. One for my best friend. One for my (ex) woman who I miss terribly. And one of course for me. Thanks again Gil. And much respect to Richard Russell too for some excellent production.

    Peace

  8. It’s not too late to turn yourself around, and not support APARTHEID against the Palestinians.

This decision on your part is really insulting to all of us that have supported you and spread the word all this time.

And playing in Tel Aviv is also a betrayal of your own legacy.

It’s never too late to turn yourself around.

  9. Please don’t play apartheid Tel Aviv. Don’t betray yourself, your art and your voice.

  11. Mr. Gil Scott Heron – My siters and I grew up listening to you due to my older sister being a big fan. We grew to love you as well and now we find our teenage children singing your songs. I saw you once in Baltimore Maryland and my sisters and I are planning to catch your show together the next time you come to this surrounding area. We love you.

  13. THE OLD GIL IS STILL THERE, BUT NOT HERE.

Gil still has a great voice. I get the impression that the producer tried to capitalize on Gil’s name and not the message that so many of his fans lone for. Also missing is that jazz and R&B flavor that gets you into the mood while hanging on to every word.

  14. So sad to hear about the death of Gil in NY on Friday, May 27, 2011. A talented man who didn’t compromise his beliefs and who was one of the best social commentors of a generation. Be BIG and RIP.

  19. My sadness is selfish, for there will be nothing new for me to enjoy coming from you. The messages, the memories, those will never fade, and i will ever carry them with me – so you will live on still. Sad, yes, and glad: that your struggles and trials with this world are over. Rest in peace, Gil, rest in peace.

  20. I shed tears when I heard. Gil showed me how to really start thinking. All I asked as a kid in an all white town in western Pennsylvania was, “What?” Mr. Scott-Heron taught me how to ask, “Why?” After kicking drugs in 1987, I became an elementary teacher and was honored to play for and discuss Whitey on the Moon, Spirits Past, and many others with my 2nd-6th Graders. I will miss you. I love you.

  21. It is in Mr. Gil’s passing that I discovered his music and profound commentary about the social landscape in America. His message lives on in his music now that he has gone.

  22. RIP GIL thanks for speaking words, words you did not have to speak but choose to speak and for giving voice to those whose dreams were deferred and identifying the machinery responsible for allowing such deference.
