  2. I had the privilege of seeing Mr Heron’s video on worldstarhiphop.com and the second after the video ended I begin researching and listening to more and more of his music. I would like to apologize to Mr Heron for not knowing of his legacy till now. He is truly an artist. I was mesmerized by each track that I listen to. I posted “Where did the night go” to my facebook. At 1:30am while in the studio, I stopped my session and begin to call my friends and inquire about Mr Heron. For those who didn’t know of him I forced them to listen to his work and asked that they begin to tell others. I guess what I’m trying to say is….I HAVE BECOME AND WILL CONTINUE TILL MY DYING DAY TO BE A FAN OF YOUR WORK!!!…For the sake of music and art, please continue to share your creativity with us all.

  5. Glad to hear you again. Back then at the Rockz where I recorded your poems with my portable cassette recorder to refresh my memory of the night before the “First Minute of a New Day” arrived. Through the Texas Farm Workers march to Washington carrying those same tunes when the “Dog’s Were In The Streets”, into the basement of Royce Hall to give you the drawing when we were “Glad to See Resistance Growing.” New travels, again to look forward to. Stay UP!

  7. Great to see this finally released! I’ve been a Gil fan for longer than I care to remember, so it’s a genuine pleasure to see some new material.

It’s little surprise that his new material is so dark, given the turmoil he’s been through in his life, particularly in recent years.

Any news on European tour dates?

  8. I’ve been a huge fan of Gil for a few years now. I first heard his music thanks to Kanye West’s “Late Registration” – My Way Home, ever since then I’ve been hooked. “The Bottle” is one of my favorite songs of all time. Glad to hear some new material from a true artist.

  11. I’ve been a fan of your music for a very long time, and I’ve seen you in concert numerous times. I’m very, very happy to see you are releasing new material. It’s quite interesting to note how your voice has changed over the years since your release Spirits. The single “Me and the Devil” reminds me a lot of vintage material by one of my favorite artists, Tricky, because it’s electronic, mysterious, and dark. But I am sure you have a lot more to give the world than what’s on that track. Please keep on keepin’ on.

  12. Thanks for keepin on keepin on. It’s always a big void to fill when the voice of the “chosen one” is silent. New spring means new life, remember the cleansing, remember Haiti.Winter is only a temporary time so don’t give up.I’m always and always will be pro “GSH” for better or worse good times and bad.Good to see & hear from you again, the worlds been missin you. long time fan & soul warrior RAD

  19. Your music & poems along with Richard Pryor’s humor saved my life back in 79. Your work continues to keep me grounded and the new piece is great! I saw you perform live in Seattle, in 1986 during Black history month. You turned it out!

I’m now 50 years old and play your music for my 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter and they enjoy it! My wife is much younger than I,she’s been advised that if I die before her play only your music at my funeral! I pray I shake your hand before then and say thank you-brother! Until then stay well.

  20. Peace and Love brother. I have listened and loved you since junior high I am now middled aged (50+) While so many others stopped being and regalled themselves to blindness, I, we are blessed to have enlighted souls blazing and still inspiring all to seek and speak truth which is still unpopular and unwanted by the ungodly powers that be in this land and these worlds. May the ear that can hear may the eye that can see may the tongue and voice that can speak. I, we send positive, strengthening, healing, lovingkindness protective peaceful love and energy to your whole being that you may always be grow and groove. Peace and Love.

  21. Wow it is so good to hear you and your music again. I remember listening to your music back in the seventies and your message is still clear and relevant today my brother. It is also good to hear your new stuff. You are amazingly gifted to the spoken word you always have been. You called it like you saw it. We have gotten away from the message in the music. I was weaned on that stuff. Peace for you my brother always.

  26. Wow Gil, so so happy to see you not only surviving but still so magical. I saw you in 1993 in London, the same week I saw Nina Simone, a week I will never forget. Saw you again at SOB’s later in the 90’s and was so sad to see you so sick. But now all is good, love and peace and courage.
ps. can someone post who made the video. It is so cool. Somehow reminds me of Nic Roeg’s film Walkabout

  31. Great stuff again Gil. I have all your CDs. Please don’t ask for them back (lol). You’ve also inspired me to write over the last 30 years and stand up for justice. It’s great to see you continue to reinvent yourself with the same passion and politically conscious work we’ve come to expect and you continue to inspire and motivates us for real change. Thanks for your canon of work and contributions to the art! You have and continue to make a difference for those of us without a voice. Long may you record and inspire!! Best wishes, friend!

    In solidarity!

  32. I met you when I was 15 or 16. You performed a benefit concert for my brother at Oberlin College. It was that meeting and concert that set in motion my own path as an artist. I have not looked back. Thank you for the kindness you showed to me as a youngster, and for sharing your voice with this new project. We are in a moment when voices of wisdom like yours are so greatly needed.

  36. You played the Ark in Ann Arbor many years ago when i became convinced that God holds and forms some of us longer than others. Of course, i was already baptized in the music and verse… “And ain’t nobody fighting ‘Cause nobody knows what to save.” Musically, nothing since has affected me more deeply. You will always be that brother to me. Don’t stop Gil.

This is so crazy, but I just came back from having an inspection on my car and there was an entertainment magazine there. I read about your resurrection. I can hardly contain myself. but the times are definitely fowl
    judgement & mayheim..messing with what’s missed..lingering against those mean oppressors that leaks wicked tension..but where theres a sound beating drums..sends a message..the street remains the outcome to perform,why the words fights it’s demoms..faces that wears..a LIFE..nobody knows..but recognized as..The Devil..welcome back SURVIVOR..>Peace..Create..Sheila

  50. Gil,
I am so glad that you are back. I first learned of you in the early ’70s when I was at GW in D.C. and hanging out with my homeboys/girls in Theatre West (they made living in D.C. bearable for me). WHUR also played all of your songs. When ever I want to be inspired or need to be awakened I always blast H20Gate Blues and We Beg Your Pardon. I think those are my favorite songs. I last saw you sometime in the ’80s at the University of Cincinnati. Hope you make it to Dayton or Cincinnati, although I’ll look for you in Detroit, NOLA or SF, in June, July/August and October 2010. respectively.

It’s all still here and we are all still conscious and better for it because of you.

We were at every date and every set you played at the Roxie during the 70’s. I’ve watched your life as all your true fans have and I am so happy for you and proud of you today. I LOVE the new music!LOVE IT! My fav is “I’ll take care of you”. So great to hear your voice! You sound great to me and even though we don’t really know each other, I really care about you and I know I’m not the only stranger in love with you. Please stay healthy. I hope I get to see you perform in LA soon. I feel like I just want to hug you for a long time.
